Jewellery Junkie

Tonight I'd planned to watch The Dark Knight Rises but the weather turned so I decided against braving the elements in the name of watching a mainstream movie. It's miserable outside but it's the perfect Sunday night to stay in with a loved one, wash down a home-cooked roast with a good bottle of red and snuggle on the couch watching the Olympics.

Well there's no loved one, no home-cooked roast and certainly no good red in this apartment right now. Snuggles are hard to come by these days and I'm only interested in the Olympic track events *drool* so here I am eating popcorn for dinner, sipping on a dicy white and working on a new wardrobe for someone. I thought I'd take a break from the wardrobe plan and do a little post. It's been a while.

I have a new found love for costume jewellery after recently discovering Philippe Ferrandis, a French costume jewellery designer who has created accessories for luxury fashion houses including Chanel, Oscar de la Renta and Balmain amongst others. I've never been one to take a second look at high end costume jewellery until I tried on a number of pieces from his Spring/Summer 2012 Twiggy Collection. I thought I might share my favourite pieces and another great designer's creation which I wore on Friday.
Friday

I'd had a hell-ish week that saw me tip-toeing around my superiors, sticking Post-its of all the things I couldn't afford to forget to every imaginable surface, working back late and attempting to pacify a friend I've neglected with an apple tart. A fashion-related treat was definitely in order but first - lunch with my blogger family. This is what I wore.
Friday's look was another We're-Running-Late-Angie-So-Lets-Just-Pray-This-Works Outfit. I'd teamed the sweater dress with a pair of suede power pumps but knew it would rain so settled on boots. I do love statement earrings so wore my new favourite pair by one of Africa's children, South African-born Madrid-based Anton Heunis.

Those Heels. That Shirt.

I've had an awesome Monday and had planned to top it off with solo dinner then a movie but was seated next to a couple with deep-seated relationship issues who killed my movie mojo. I decided to ditch watching Hysteria so here I am at home reflecting on a quick catchup with my man-eater friend and what I've been wearing over the last few days. I had an epic weekend that saw me out and about makeup free in full gym gear, sans the pedometer, avoiding the awkward stares. I thought I'd share what I wore before comfort took over.

Thursday

Thursday's getup was my typical We're-Running-Late-Angie-So-Lets-Just-Pray-This-Works Outfit. I had a whole list of things I had to complete before I could kick back at one of my favourite spots, La Luna Bistro, but overslept and was frazzled the minute I got up. I just chucked on whatever I could find and teamed it all up with my most comfortable heels yet. Viva Julia Lundsten's FINSK shoes!

So I finally got the shirt I'd been obsessing about for weeks! I had a sneaky suspicion that it would make it to the sale and then would be reduced even further so I waited patiently hoping no one would take a liking to it. A little birdie called me as soon as she'd heard the shirt amongst other items had been marked down even further so off I went to Marais with Junior Mafia on repeat. I'd clearly overdosed on Players Anthem and was spitting Biggie's lyrics doing hand gestures I mastered back in the day (thanks to BET) ready to do the plunge. The second I walked into Marais the staff knew exactly what I had come for - the shirt that everyone else had dismissed as 'too loud'.
Top - Balenciaga

My first thoughts were to wear the shirt with super skinny pants and a pair of cobalt peep toe slingbacks but I was going to the footy later that night so decided on something a little more easy chic. How would YOU wear the shirt?

The Pants That Changed My Life

It's Friday night and I'm working on something I was supposed to do weeks ago. I'm a little stuck so thought might I pour a glass of wine, watch the highlights of tonight's footy and share the Outfit Of The Day (OOTD) instead. I've had an interesting week that's seen me shuffle along to work on Monday and then break out into an Azonto slash Ndombolo earlier this afternoon. The End of Financial Year, Twitter thread with a group of friends and lunch in an industrial suburb I'd hoped to spot some good graffiti might have something to do with it.

Very rarely do I find a pair of pants that catch my eye. Very rarely do I find a pair that suit my shape and fit well without any alterations. I'd almost given up on looking for pants until I scored the ones I wore today. I was immediately drawn to their print and knew I had to try them on. Five minutes later, I was at the register buying them without a care in the world. They looked a wee bit Afrocentric, fit well and weren't too bootylicious for work. They were perfect!

I'd be a fool to not only share my pants but also today's outfit with you.

Not Only The Devil Wears Prada

Not Only The Devil Wears Prada is dedicated to my bestie who never fails to remind me to do a post.

Yesterday I attended a Women In Business lunch where Megan Quinn, co-founder of Netaporter, was the guest speaker. I've always been fascinated with this online retailer that has created waves in the luxury fashion marketplace changing how women, and now men, with spending power shop. First wind of this lunch - I knew I had to be there.

I've been thinking a lot about both my fashion and non-fashion related goals, my inspirations and how I plan to make my mark in the fashion industry particularly on my continent. I'd had a good chat with one of my mentors on Tuesday night and woke up feeling super fierce ready to 'show dem' in an Afrocentric outfit. I'd planned to wear something that shouted "All eyes on this African. Now watch me glide across the room!" but was running really late and decided on a demure Boss-Lady-Who-Lunches-Meets-Stepford-Wife outfit. This is what I wore.

I bought the dress along with another one on a whim a couple of years ago and I'll never forget how sick in my stomach I felt signing the credit card slip in the store that afternoon. I was raised to pay cash for everything but this purchase had to be on credit. It was one of those transactions that couples break up over and years later, in Edith Piaf word's Non. Je ne regrette rien! I have a dress that makes me feel like a gazillion dollars that's seen industry awards presented, dear friends graduate, an ex-colleague's engagement tears and that has gone to some of Melbourne's best restaurants. I have a good navy dress.
